Insomnia affects about 30 percent of adults and is the most common condition that can worsen anxiety. Anxiety issues of all kinds are generally worse after a poor night’s sleep. Most of us need seven to eight hours of sleep per night, at least six of which are uninterrupted.
You might sleep for hours and still wake up tired and the quality of your sleep is poor. Others might go right to sleep and be awake in the early morning being unable to go back to sleep. When we are asleep, we are turning inward from the outside world. Being mindful of this oneness in our sleeping helps us better understand why sleep can elude us.
