Anxiety is developed and maintained by the influence of cumulative stress over time. Stress can arise from unresolved psychological  conflicts lasting over many years. Sometimes stress is generated by difficulties in one area of your life, such as problems with your marriage,   difficulties at work or physical health and usually persist over a long period of time.

Life events can also create and generate stress. When you are adjusting and reordering your priorities, such as changing jobs, getting married or leaving an intimate relationship, moving to a new location, having a baby, or having heavy workload at the office.

While a couple of life events every year is a manageable experience, a series of many of them covering over one or two years can lead to a state of exhaustion and chronic stress.

Stress also generates the well know burn out. The term “burnout” is relatively new, first coined in 1974 by Herbert Freudenberger, in his   book, Burnout: The High Cost of High Achievement. He originally defined burnout as, “the extinction of motivation or incentive, especially   where one's devotion to a cause or relationship fails to produce the desired results.”

Burnout is a state of emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion caused by excessive and prolonged stress. It occurs when you feel overwhelmed, emotionally drained, and unable to meet constant demands.

Stress and especially burn out it is not something that you can easily recover from. It can take time and in order to begin the healing you will   need to recognise the signs your mind and body are giving. When your body starts telling No, be kind to yourself and listen to it.
