Social phobia and self-esteem

Updated: Oct 26, 2023

We hear the name of social phobia quite frequently, but we do not know for sure whether it is excessive shyness or some form of withdrawal from social life. Social phobia is felt through fear when: we meet new people, new meetings are set up, we request for information from authorised services, consume food and drink in public or when we are having contradictory discussions with others. People who have a social phobia often avoid situations that cause them discomfort and are afraid not to act in such ways that others will think or create a misconception/ bad image about them. If you have a thought pattern like, "I can't find a conversation topic with X" "I will be seen that I am a coward", "I must always be nice and good, in order to be liked by others" is indicated to give yourself the time to reflect on what is happening on a deeper level. The enemies of self-esteem low are compassion, love, respect and understanding of your own needs without setting standards that are hard to reach. Perfectionism and impossible standards, if unsatisfied will create frustrations and may stop you from acquiring certain social skills. If you find yourself judging yourself more negatively than you do with others, explore the reasons behind the criticism, do the exploration gently. Before you harm yourself emotionally and criticise, make sure there are no other factors responsible for a shaky self-esteem that could generate social phobia.

How can hypnotherapy help you?

Hypnotherapy works by accessing the power of the unconscious mind and directs the energy towards accomplishing your goals. Most phobias are in your unconscious and are learned responses. Through hypnotherapy, phobias can be resolved easier than with other therapeutic methods. Hypnotherapy can help you unlearn the fear response, build up your exposure to the phobia and in time decrease the anxiety associated with the fear.

My training followed an integrative approach and I have variety of techniques and tools that we can use to help overcome whatever is bothering you. I use a mind-body, holistic approach with the emphasis on Solution Focus techniques.

I look forward working with you.
